God is Zealously in love with you.
God’s kind of Zeal.
There is need to understand the functionalities of God’s kind of Zeal and to adopt it as our own covering. We love Him because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). God is very zealous about you and I, and this makes Him protect our interest at all times, ensuring that no temptation is too hard for us to bear. When we are covered with God’s Zeal, necessity will be laid upon us, like Paul (1 Corinthians 9:16), to rise up out of our comfort zone and to do exploits for Him.
It takes God’s favour to obtain blessings from Him, but it takes His Zeal to overturn the evil counsel of our enemies and oppressors which have prevailed against us. God’s Zeal is aimed at preserving His people and His honour (Isa.26:11). It is a passionate commitment to restore, repair and recover all that was previously lost, damaged, or destroyed in our lives. He will not hold His peace until His Zeal is spent in achieving His aim (Isaiah 42:13). It is one of the greatest assets to have as we tackle the issues of our lives.
God is jealous over His own – Exodus 34:14
The words ‘zealous’ and ‘jealous’ come from the same Latin word: ‘zelus’ or the Greek ‘zelos’; so, it is no surprise that our Zealous God is also a jealous God. His jealousy over us does not stem from inferiority or insecurity as in us humans, but rather from the utmost superiority of His relentless commitment to vigilantly guard what belongs to Him. God’s jealousy over us ought to make us understand the true value of our souls. The intensity of His love for us and the price He has paid to redeem us back from spiritual bondage make it unacceptable to Him for any rival to contest His place in our lives.
God’s Wedlock.
When we give priority to worldly pleasures over and above God, we are flirting with the world and His jealousy for our undivided devotion to Him will be provoked. This zealous, jealous passion for our reciprocate love is not out of wounded pride or excessive possession – remember that He has given you and I the free will to choose Him or not. It is essentially an expression of His deep concern for the wellbeing of our souls and the preservation of our spirits for eternity. Anything or anyone that seeks to block our access to eternity with God is contesting with God.
“For you shall not go after other gods…for the Lord your God in your midst is a jealous God… (Deuteronomy 6:14,15). “…I passed by you, saw you, and behold, you were at the time for love; so, I spread my skirt over you and covered your nakedness. I also swore to you and entered into covenant with you so that you became mine… (Ezekiel 16:8). “For your husband is your Maker… (Isaiah 54:5).
If we realize that God is an emotional being Who is deeply in love with us, has married us, paid our bride price and is daily guarding us with a burning jealousy for our love and affection in return, we will not toy with this privileged opportunity to prove our love for Him.
His Zeal – Our driving force.
God is a Zealous God (Isaiah 9:6,7). His Zeal is obvious to see in the Scriptures as a performing force that accomplishes great things. It is a tangible force on a mission to establish something new or something that did not exist before.
Haven’t you at some time felt a strong driving force propelling you to do something or go somewhere that you hadn’t planned for beforehand; only to find at the end of the day that that unplanned action was a divine intervention? Well, that is the Zeal of God driving you. The Zeal of God at work in your life will drive you in the right direction to follow and guide you to achieve things in one year that would otherwise have taken you ten years to do.
Securing God’s Zeal as our driving force should therefore be our priority because it provides us with unstoppable access to accomplish the impossible. God’s Zeal at work in your life is an indication of His support and sponsorship in whatever you are doing. The criteria for obtaining this backing from Him is seen in the lives of the following:
- Abraham (Hebrews 11:17-19) – He was ready to go the extra mile and do more than was expected for God.
- Noah (Hebrews 11:7) – He did what had never been done before at God’s instruction.
- Caleb (Joshua 14:13,14) – He followed God wholeheartedly.
- David (1 Samuel 13:14/17:26) – He was sold out for God and fought for His cause.
- Jesus (Philippians 2:5-9) – He humbly submitted to God’s plan of salvation and paid the price.
Zeal is important to God and important for us. It is what facilitates our progress, development, and advancement. Yearn for it.
