You need Light to bomb your darkness.

The Purpose of Light.

Whether it is in the Bible or in science or in general, the concept of Light always carries a positive notion. Light is welcome each day as daylight, and at night for illumination, in the form of new information or new understanding, etc.  Light, in its revealing capacity, is always desirable except where goodness and good intentions are absent.

Scripture makes enough reference to Light and its works to make us want to pursue and engage it in tackling our lives issues (Isaiah 9:2). Having sufficient Light to operate in in these dark times is important to develop hope and strength with which to attain our goals and fulfil God’s purpose for us (Micah 7:8).

While Light symbolizes goodness, hope, wisdom, knowledge, and happiness generally, its Scriptural and Spiritual implications go far deeper, and understanding this can greatly impact our daily living.

Light is a Divider.

The properties of darkness to conceal and of Light to reveal is the reason why people respond differently to them (John 3:19-21).  Turning on the light switch in the middle of the night makes the rodents in the house start running for cover because they know they are not supposed to be there. Mere words of Truth spoken to the guilty can generate defensive arguments if there is no intention to reverse their lifestyle but will produce a submissive response if it is in their heart to come clean.

Light is a divider; it distinguishes those who prefer the darkness from those who love the Light of God’s Truth (1 John 1:5-9). Jesus, as our Light, came into the world so that men would have to take a stand on their decision about God. It’s either a yes or a no; there’s no middle ground. Even without uttering a word, our response to Light gives us away.

Light is Life.

Light equals Life. Just as electrical light in a bulb is produced by the flow of electric current, human life (or Light) flows in our veins because charged elements called ions flow across our cell membranes to generate electricity inside our bodies.

The flow of bodily electricity (or human life) is vital to our health and existence. Even for the heart to pump our blood correctly, our cells must generate the required electrical currents which allow the heart muscle to contract at the right time and rate. Any interruption in these electrical currents within our bodies can lead to illness or even death. Clearly, Light equals Life!

Every form of Light is generated from a Power source, therefore Light is always backed by Power. While the physical electrical light we use daily is backed by Power companies, our own bodily electrical source of light is Powered by the Life of God. Even the natural light of daytime is sourced from the very Life of God (nothing has been able to prevent daytime from consistently taking over nighttime). This Life of God is the ‘True Light’ that gives light to everyone! (John 1:9).

Therefore, the Power of Light is contained in the Life content of Light. Life exists inside Light; as such, just as physical electrical current generates heat, magnetic fields, and chemical transformations, so the entrance of the Light of God’s Word in our lives produces the changes and transformations we experience when we live by His Word. In contrast, darkness is devoid of life – it is mere emptiness! The only strength of darkness is to conceal and hide what Light is offering us. In other words, Light is superior to darkness: “And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” (John 1:5).

Choose Light!

Jesus, as the Light of the world, says: “…whoever follows me will have the Light of life” (John 8:12). What then is the Light of life? First of all, life as we know it is tough, unpredictable, expensive, fearful, unkind, unjust and exhausting. Light itself is meant for illumination and providing direction. Therefore, Jesus was clearly saying that our decision to believe in and walk with Him gives us access to the answers to life’s questions, solutions to problems, and direction when at life’s crossroads.

Too often, we look outwards to the world and its patterns to navigate our way through life, when what we really need is to look to Jesus, who is the Light of this world (John 12:36). Though Scientists know how Light behaves, they still cannot understand why. Light was the first thing God called out for in setting the system of our world in order; and it is the first thing we must seek out in sorting out any pressing issue in our lives.  We seek Light from Jesus when we table our concerns before Him, search the scriptures, and believe Him to lead and guide us out of troubles, by being our Light at the end of the tunnel.  Therefore, choose Light!
